I hope the general has read Lt. Col. John Nagl's, Learning to East Soup with a Knife ... 'cause like every other war that turns into an insurgency, this is hearts and minds. It would also be helpful if Higher let the guys on the ground in on the possibilities and hardships winning a la Malaya entail.

And I sure hope that this doesn't muddle the ROE for the people on the sharp point.

Somewhere between Korea and Nam...Warfare, became morphed into what we are seeing in these "Directives"....I realize, I am not a scholar, to say the very least, in the art of warfare and its stratigically difficult logistics. Even being an Army brat, doesn't allow me that. However, being compassionately interactive, with cultures for whom clear lines of friendly or foe distinction is cloudy at best...appears as the mouse is trying to convince the Cat wont devour him! We, the overall world, was given a 50+ year of relative quiet, with many diplomatic exchanges that lead to the interwoven facet our worlds have become today. Whether this worldly exchanges in any one person's perception, is good or bad...millions, in all countries have prospered in one manner or another. Yet, 50+ years ago, we were not holding tea, and partaking in a confusing civilian exchange, creating a sense of emotional turmoil for our enlisted, for whom, will only find these actions in direct conflict with their purpose and training. Leave the acts of engagement for our military clearly defined. Then when securement of warring factions has been obtained...Let, those meant for civil mandates, exercise their best of influences. Leave the fighting to the military and its trained for war personnel! There is no room for "civilian friendly" till its done, and objective is met. Support Our Troops!
