Memorial Day Weekend

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13

On this Memorial Day our thoughts go out to all of our brave warriors who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their sacrifice should never be far from our hearts and minds as it is their sacrifice which secures our right to enjoy today and every freedom we have. So we hope you enjoy this day with your family and friends, but hope you set aside a moment to remember our fallen warriors.

ƒ??For those who fight for it, life and freedom have a meaning the protected will never knowƒ?

Each Memorial Day I think of the millions of souls who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving those words undeniable significance. As Veterans we donƒ??t think of ourselves as special, but it takes a special person to volunteer to go into harms way so that others may go on about their daily lives without fear of oppression.

Americans in particular, take allot for granted. Compared to many other countries, we are very fortunate to have prosperity, guaranteed freedom of speech, worship, education, and choice of employment. Grocery stores are plentiful. The average household has at least 3 television sets. The standard of living in this country rates in the worldƒ??s top 15%. Outstanding emergency medical care is available regardless of economic status. Even the lowest per capita income in the United States is enough to support entire villages in Africa.

Our position as the worldƒ??s leading superpower has been earned through hard work, determination, guts, and ingenuity. Itƒ??s maintained and preserved by those sworn to protect and defend it.
Their contributions were and are immeasurable. From Valley Forge to the war against Islamofascist terrorism, Americans can sleep well knowing that their Soldiers are at the frontlines.
My Grandfather fought in World War II. I enlisted in the United States Army the year he officially retiredƒ??1976. It was a symbolic changing of the guard and I was proud to follow in the footsteps of his combat boots. I have had the privilege of knowing some of the finest people ever to wear the uniform, and I will never forget them.
While youƒ??re enjoying your bar-b-que and beer, take a moment to remember those who sacrificed so that you can enjoy this day in peace.

Thank you, Michael, for all you are doing for us, the citizens of the USA at home, and for our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who are away from home - especially those in Iraq.

I am fortunate, my soldier came home from Iraq alive and in good shape. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those whose loved ones gave life or health in service to freedom.

I am remembering my uncle today, who was KIA on June 8, 1944 in Normandy and is buried there. He was one of the 101st Airborne, a Screaming Eagle of the 501st PIR. He was 20. I only know of him by stories my mother and aunts tell of the mischievous boy and youth whose pictures now decorate our homes. The Gold Star banner my grandmother kept beside her chair is my first introduction to the Mother's Banner.

I am also remembering the many who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. I am sorry for their loss. I thank them, and I also thank their families and loved ones for their service. In my book they are American Heroes.

Finally, I am the proud daughter of a WWII Navy vet, the proud wife of a Vietnam-era Navy vet, and the proud mother of a young US Marine. I am thankful for them all, and for their defense of our nation's freedoms.

To those of you who serve now, "Thank You." We appreciate you more than we can ever say.

A blessed Memorial Day to you all,
J Taylor
