Yeah right, we're the "Great Imposer"

A long-time reader and occasional donor, I came back to this series because it's germane to a new job/project only to find the prattle about the nasty 'ol USA and our irrational - and world-wide - prohibition, like opium and heroin are or would be completely legal without the Great Satan's interference. Spare me.
Opium and illicit drugs in general are a world-wide problem; funding terrorists, fueling corruption and causing instability everywhere. This problem is only the USA's in relation to permissive -and all too pervasive - idiocy about drug crimes being "victimless crimes" wahtever that may mean. Otherwise, the question becomes whether to side with the rule of law or the rule of money. - Boat Guy

Dear Michael,

The only thing that fuels opium production and prices is the irrational prohibition imposed to the world by the US.

Terrorists that feed on policies imposed by America to fight America.

Irrationality has become the norm. - Jay Stoner

I really enjoy reading your dispatches. I agree there must be consequences for growing and distributing drugs but one of the problems I see is good officers working hard to get it off the street, prosecute the dealers but when they go to court if they get convicted where do they put them. I think there needs to be an overhaul of the system. The pedophiles, murderers, sex offenders who commit crimes without remorse don't belong in prison for us to support. We need to build set of gallows in the Court Yard of the Court House, & hang them that way there's be room for first offenders who deal drugs, 2nd offense would be a hanging. I have a daughter who is a drug addict, she's been in recovery for a year but still struggles every day. We need Prayer back in school, students getting punishment that fits the crime & parents taking them to church and reading the Bible on a regular basis. Showing them what it's like to be loved but making them take responsibility for their actions. We need leaders who aren't afraid to stand for the death penalty when warranted. - Carolyn J Frazier

While I never served in Viet Nam, I remember the videos of napalm attacks over what appeared to be wide areas. In fact one of the most iconic photos of the war was the little girl fleeing such an attack. Sad for the farmers on the receiving end, but they must learn that dealing with the devil has dire consequences. - Dave Boone
