That said, the only way to deal with this new challange and it will not be easy with the cash flow from oil into the Russian Federation, is strength...not just military though that is a key component and it will require that the US rebuild its Heavy Armored Divisions from the 90s, possibly positioning them in Germay again or better yet in Poland. We need to rally NATO, SEATO and as much of the world to show a united front, a united purpose, a united cause and a united strategy. We must strive to keep our technilogical edge in the various Air Forces, 'spy' satallites and all of our other cool toys. We (the West) need an immediate and comprihensive energy plan that includes drilling for our own oil, natural gas, coal and massive construction of nuclear power plants. At the exact same time, we need a Manhatten Project using government and private industry to replace fossil fuels. We need to work hard and without hesitation on the Strategic Defence Initative. I also believe the President Reagan's idea of possibly sharing the weapon or better yet anti-weapon platform deserves serious study and negotiations...the object is to avoid a war between Russia and the West. The West but most importantly the United States needs to permenately adopt a tax system that favors individual growth, individual freedom (from govt interferance) helps small, medium and big business...my favorite is the Fair Tax Plan, followed by Steve Forbes Flat Tax Proposal. The West must live within its means...balanced budgets, debt paid off. The West needs to respect Russian pride and with some imagination we may be able to find away to exploit it to our mutual benefit.
