Officials: Drug-war spillover exaggerated

EL PASO -- Sen. John Kerry and two members of his Foreign Relations Committee heard a clear message Monday in El Paso: Sending U.S. soldiers to the Mexico-U.S. border is unnecessary.
Speaking almost with one voice, police officers, politicians and border experts who testified at a Senate field hearing said a military buildup would be of no help as the United States tries to assist Mexico in its war against the drug cartels.
The drug war has claimed more than 6,000 lives in Mexico since January 2008. Blood has been spilled in just about every major Mexican city, including those along the border, leading to worries that the violence could expand to the United States. In recent weeks, law enforcement officials in Denver and Tucson have said drug violence with roots in Mexico had touched their communities.

Exaggerated?

I doubt most countries would list an incursion by another country's troops into its sovereign territory as an exaggeration. This has been documented on several occasions. Now whether or not these are Mexican troops or drug cartel soldiers matters not. Something is 'spilling' over into our territory. Exaggerated

We wouldn't want to have the National Guard on the border as that would make the illegal alien trip north more difficult. There have already been numerous documented incidents in border towns and a full blown gunfight in Phoenix between Mexican soldiers and the police. Not to mention that Phoenix is now second in the world in kidnappings. More than 70% of America wants the illegals sent home and stopped from returning. My wife had to get a visa to immigrate from Korea, why shouldn't it be the same for any other country? Does that make me a racist? Not hardly!

Which Nation's National Guard?

Why do we need Mexico's approval to send out our own National Guard to patrol and secure our own border? Has the United Nations superceded our Constitution (as the American militia claims will happen) or has the global jihad undermined our government that badly that it would not take prudent action in a crisis for fear of offending? We do not have to fight the battle brewing in Mexico. We do have the right to protect our citizens from it spilling over our borders as it is meant to. Let's not just stand there dumbly while we are being "smacked down."
