View all of Chris’s work at DayByDayCartoon.com
1. How do you describe what you do for a living?
Political cartoonist.
2. What inspired you to undertake this work?
30 years of PC crap forcefed to me via the MSM.
3. How do you approach the work?
Lots of reading, lots of back & forth @ the blogs, lots of beer.
4. Where do you find inspiration?
Beer? Actually, the whole field of political cartooning has been so stultified & castrated by PC for so long, there is an endless amount of things to talk about. 30 years’ worth, actually.
5. What books are you reading now?
Inside the Third Reich/Albert Speer; Self-made Man/Norah Vincent, Meditations/Marcus Aurelius, Blown to Bits/Philip Evans.
6. What do you consider required reading in order for people to understand the world today?
So many. . . but perhaps, I would suggest history related tomes, especially American history. Our present population seems to have almost no idea what a beautiful history this country has.
7. Whose work (in any field) do you admire the most?
Michael Yon, Pat Dollard, in getting the word out against an overwhelming inertia on part of the MSM. Allan Bloom, for concise thought in academia. Bertrand Russell’s dry wit, Hugh Hewitt’s seeing of the big picture, Captain Ed for Damn Hard Work on breaking news, Glenn Reynolds on being the fulcrum. . . .
8. What do you consider as an overrated person, place or thing?
Most media. Kos. Chris Muir—it’s the characters in the strip that make it interesting.
9. What do hope will be your most lasting contribution?
That these characters continue to have something to discuss with readers on the net, and that the people who read DBD continue to find DBD interesting and relevant to their lives.
10. When is the last time you laughed out loud about something?
“You’re ALMOST at the Kerry rally, sweetheart. Press ‘ENTER’ for your food pellet.” From Hog on Ice, Steve H’s excellent blog. The guy makes Dave Barry seem mainstream.
11. What do you think people need to spend more time doing (or paying attention to)?
Appreciating life. And beer.
12. What is the most important piece of equipment (or skill) in your arsenal?
Beer. Well. . .more likely, growing up watching Python, Dave Allen, Benny Hill and 30 years of puns from my dad, along with writing abilities from my mom.
